VINTAGE NOTES
The severe lack of rain at the end of 2020 led to very weak shoot growth and low crop yields in 2021. This will continue to affect the vines in 2022. All that aside, the fires that started August 18th had the largest impact on the 2020 growing season. On August 21st the fires reached the ridge line about 1000 yards behind our estate vineyards.
In 2020 we didn’t pick most of our vineyards. But the Platt vineyard is all the way out in Bodega and only about 2.5 miles from the ocean. The prevailing winds blow out of the Northwest and that kept most of the smoke inland, and away from Platt.
TASTING NOTES
The nose shows ripe Citrus, Almond wood, and sea mist. On the palate the wine has Meyer Lemon, and Brioche Toast. The 2020 Platt Chardonnay has bright acidity and a lovely minerality.
This is a stunning Chardonnay from, what I believe to be, the greatest site in California for Burgundy varieties.
